So as a mom, I often struggle with getting the kids to eat vegetables. I know I’m not alone in this struggle. This recipe for chili is the perfect solution. Packed with hidden vegetables and spices eat it by itself with some warm garlic bread or combine it with some zucchini noodles or pasta. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

  • 1 lb ground meat (beef/chicken/turkey)
  • 2 onions chopped (I personally prefer red onions)
  • 2 tsps ground ginger and garlic paste
  • 2 cardamom
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 4 cloves
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 2 tsps coriander powder
  • Pinch of turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp (or more) of red chili powder
  • 2 tbsp yogurt
  • 2 chopped tomatoes (or 1-14oz chopped tomatoes)
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped (optional)
  • 1 carrot, chopped (optional)
  • 1 green/red/yellow pepper chopped
  • 1 can organic baked beans (14 oz)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  1. Add olive oil to a wide, deep pan on medium heat.
  2. Once warm, add the diced onions and fry till dark brown.
  3. Add ground garlic and ginger paste and keep stirring for a minute until the raw smell goes.
  4. Add the ground meat mixing and breaking up any lumps.
  5. Add the whole spices – cardamom, cinnamon and cloves and give it a good mix.
  6. Next add your ground spices – cumin, coriander, turmeric red chili powder and salt.
  7. Mix everything well and cook till the meat is browned and no longer pink.
  8. At this point, give it a good mix, cover and let it cook for about 5 mins so that the meat is cooked thoroughly with the spices.
  9. Open the lid, add the celery and carrots (if using) along with the tomatoes and yogurt and stir well.
  10. Add a little water and cover with the lid.
  11. Let it simmer for 20 mins stirring occasionally.
  12. Open cover, add the baked beans and peppers.
  13. Cover and continue to simmer for another 10 minutes.
  14. Serve hot on its own or with rice, pasta, zucchini noodles or garlic bread!
